At roughly age ten, Kimiko's parents were murdered by members of the Shining Light Liberation Army. Their house, a small beach property on coastal Japan, was burned down. She and her brother, Kenji, were taken and raised as child soldiers. Even as a child, Kimiko showed an uncomfortable knack for killing before her opponent could kill her, but this came at a significant cost: her voice. Kimiko has been psychologically mute since her first night among the Shining Light.
After many years serving the mission as Shining Light's soldier, she was brought to America and forcibly given a dose of Compound V. This made her incredibly strong, agile, and resilient. After weeks in a cage, she escaped and went on a rampage before finding solace with Billy Butcher's team. The kindness of one member in particular, Frenchie/Serge, helped her find balance and rediscover how to be a person. She was slowly deprogrammed and was able to have some semblance of a normal life.
By her current canon point, Kimiko is a trusted member of The Boys: a CIA-sanctioned and funded black ops team dedicated to taking down Vought Enterprises and the antagonistic, mass-murdering superhero team known as The Seven. She still can't speak, but she communicates with a homebrew sign language she and her brother came up with when they were children.
